An investigation into the sound dramaturgy of movie trailers using loudness measurement and speech analysis (A measurement of movie trailer loudness)

Scientific thesis that examines the sound dramaturgy via movie trailer loudness of movie trailers from a statistical data analysis perspective. Using loudness measurement according to EBU R 128, the audio material of 635 trailers from 17 genres from the period 1980 to 2024 was examined for the audio characteristic of intensity, and an analysis of speech occurrence was also carried out. The study shows how speech and audio intensity are used over the temporal-dramaturgical course of a movie trailer and also takes into account the historical development of trailer production. The results provide a deeper understanding of the use of these dramaturgical elements in trailers and may also be relevant for production practice.
